Breast cancer surgery

Breast cancer surgery is a key part of treating malignant breast tumors, involving the surgical removal of the tumor and surrounding tissue. The goal of the surgery is to completely remove the tumor while preserving as much healthy breast tissue as possible, and it may include various techniques such as lumpectomy (removal of the tumor only) or mastectomy (removal of the entire breast). Surgeries are often accompanied by lymph node dissection to check for lymph node involvement. After the procedure, patients may be candidates for additional therapies such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or hormone therapy depending on the stage and characteristics of the tumor.

Lumpectomy

Surgical removal of the tumor while preserving as much healthy breast tissue as possible.

Mastectomy

Removal of the entire breast, recommended for larger or more advanced tumors.

Lymph Node Dissection

Removal of lymph nodes to check for cancer spread and plan further treatment.

Postoperative Therapy

Radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or hormone therapy may be needed to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence.
